Dr. Kontzias is a Board Certified Rheumatologist, trained at the National Institutes of Health (NIAMS), where he subspecialized in rare diseases within the autoimmune and autoinflammatory spectrum.
Dr. Kontzias is one of the national and international experts in the field of autoinflammatory diseases/periodic fever syndromes. His subspecialty interests also include recurrent pericarditis, Sjögren’s syndrome, as well as inflammatory syndromes triggered by immune checkpoint blockade of cancer immunotherapy such as PD-1, PDL-1 and CTLA-4 inhibitors. He has been an invited speaker in international conferences, an advisor for several patient advocacy groups, principal investigator in clinical trials and author of more than 60 scientific papers, abstracts and chapters in the field of autoinflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
